Why Black derby collective
The roller derby community is fortunate to have many competitive borderless teams that exist outside of the WFTDA.
Black Derby Collective seeks to carry that same spirit of safety, belonging, and resilience—while also building a clear and competitive path toward pursuing the Hydra.
How It Started
What started as a conversation among Black skaters has grown into a league built on community, culture, accountability, and a shared love of roller derby.
Our members come from leagues across North America, united by the belief that Black skaters deserve spaces where we can thrive, lead, and be celebrated.
This is our roller derby.
BDC holds a zero-tolerance policy for transphobia and all forms of discrimination—on and off the track. We firmly believe that roller derby is not just for everyone—it’s ours. It belongs to the community that builds it, protects it, and shapes it every day.
The safety, dignity, and agency of our skaters, especially those who are transgender,
gender non-conforming, or gender expansive is non-negotiable.
This is our roller derby.
